BEATO DOMENICO LENTINI
(Lauria, 1770-1828)

beato lentini

He was born in Lauria on November the 20th 1770. When he was 15 years old he became priest. His brief life was characterized from poverty, prays and penitence. He died on February the 25th 1828 after a long period of suffering due to meningitis.
His prodigies began since the day of his death. His body’s temperature remained the same as a living man for 8 days and an inebriant scent was in the air around him.
After some months from his death, there is evidence of divine healings. Miracles happened both in Lauria and in the surrounding area and lots were their witnesses. Blessed Domenico Lentini was considered Saint when he was alive and after his death lots of persons visited his tomb and the areas where he lived and predicated.
After 160 years from his death he was blessed from the Pope Johan Paul II on October the 12th 1997 in Saint Peter’s Square, where the choir “Chorale Beato Dominico Lentini” sang his Hymn (written from Father Mario Curione) directed from the Choirmaster Silvano Marchese.

The celebration of the festivity to remember the Blessed Domnico Lentini is on February 25th in Lauria.
